Museums
Van Abbemuseum One of the country’s
foremost centers for modern and contemporary art. The collection includes
Appel, Chagall, van Doesburg, Kandisky, Mondriaan and Picasso. Since an
ambitious renovation which was completed in January 2003 the building
itself is worth a visit: it’s daring architectural design caused a
nationwide debate about design, drawing praise and criticism (and
visitors!) from all corners of the country.
Philips first Incandescent Lamp Factory of
1891 Take a tour through the first and oldest Philips factory in
the city center and relive the late nineteenth century in this unique
industrial heritage setup.
Artificial Light in Art Centre 'Kunstlicht in de
kunst' A collection of paintings and sculptures themed around
the concept “Artificial Light”. The museum is housed in the same
historical building as the first Philips Incandescent Lamp factory. There
are 600 pieces on permanent exhibition and regular temporary exhibitions
which serve to illuminate the visitor with regard to the huge contribution
artificial light has made to daily life, in the past and the present.
DAF Museum DAF used to be the major Dutch
automobile producer. On display here 120 historic trucks, rally cars and
delivery vans.
Museum Kempenland Paintings, photography
and sculptures from the 19th and 20th century which convey the cultural
history of Eindhoven and the region.
Historic Open Air Museum A recreation of
the medieval city “Endehoven” and it’s Iron Age predecessor. People in
prehistoric and medieval clothing carry out the daily rituals and work
typical for the age period. Watch out for loose domesticated farm animals
and participate in fun activities.
